In person I am a pretty open book. I really don't mind sharing anything and everything about my life. Here are 10 kind of random facts you may or may not know about me :)
1. I have been on an air plane every year of my life.
Growing up my parents always traveled with us. We did a family vacation somewhere each year. I am so thankful for my parents giving us the opportunity to travel and see different parts of the United States as well as Mexico and Canada as a family.
2. My life was filled with dance until high school.
Since I was three I was surround by the world of dance. I danced at a studio and on a traveling dance team until the summer before my freshman year of high school when I injured my knee and ended up having multiple knee surgeries. After the surgeries, I was never able to return to dance completely. I finally rejoined the competitive dance world when I started coaching in 2014.
3. I have a cadaver bone in my leg.
Yep...dead person bone in my leg. After injuring my knee and going through X-rays and MRIs we found out that I was missing half of my left femur bone, leading to the cause for my knee issues. It turned out that my bone just never grew and soft tissue took its place. Therefore, my first "knee" surgery was actually the doctors scraping out the soft tissue and putting in a cadaver bone so that I would have a stable femur bone.
4. I hated high school, but now teach high school and I teach at the high school I went to.
After not being able to dance, or do any sports really, because of my knee surgeries, I lost friends and my identity of who I thought I was as a 14 year-old. Everything I had just done for the last 11 years, I could no longer do. I had refigure out who I was as and do this all while starting high school and trying to "fit in." Needless to say it was not easy and after some struggles I realized I really didn't like high school. It was not the best years of my life and the things that mattered then definitely did not matter after. Which is actually one of the reasons I have chosen to teach in a high school. When I started my teaching degree I was given a card with the quote be who you needed when you were younger on it. That card made me think about my high school experience, the teachers who impacted my life so much that some of them really saved me during some tough times. If it wasn't for them, I really do not know where I would be today. So when a job became available last year at my high school, it made me want to go back there and (hopefully) try to do the same.
5. I used to play basketball and softball...and was pretty good I guess?
Remember in number 3 when I said I danced and played sports? Well this lady played basketball and softball from age 3 until 14. When I quit both of these sports to focus more on dance is when I ended up having all my knee issues. Kind of ironic.
6. I can sleep whenever, wherever.
I can't sit still - I always need to be doing something...and if I'm not you can usually find me sleeping. No matter the time of day, I can take a nap. The hubs calls me a professional sleeper. Hence why I am always trying to stay busy.
7. I'm a total texture person.
Like can't eat yogurt because of the texture. or mayo.
8. I would pick Ft. Myers, Florida as a vacation spot over any other place.
Since I was 11 my family has vacationed to Ft. Myers and since I was 18 my parents have owned a place there. It has now become our second home. We (the hubs and I) go every year because it is honestly the most relaxing place where we don't have to worry about anything but whether we plan to lay by the pool or go to the beach each day.
9. Cows and squirrels are my favorite animal -
I honestly don't know why but they are and have been since I was little. I am that person that announces to the car that we are driving past downs as well as that person that slows down for squirrels to cross the road.
10. I went to my first country concert when I was 6 weeks old.
It was Garth Brooks. My dad surprised my mom with tickets. So I naturally had to come with. I blame that on my love for country music and concerts.
